Two stunning new Antique Tables

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

orme1.jpg gw.jpg

We have just assembled two stunning Antique Full Size tables which will be very hard to find again. The condition of both these tables is simply amazing , due in no small part to their original condition and the thorough restoration that they have been through.

The tables are very different in design and reflect the approach of the differing manufacturers. The Orme and Son is presented in a fabulous Honey Oak with real Ebony inserts and attractive scrolls. It is hard to describe this table in terms other than perfect in every way.

The Second table was manufactured by George Wright and is very heavily carved with decorative Lions Heads on all legs and below every cushion. The table has delightful turned legs which are very detailed and reflect the awards that George Wright achieved for his wonderful tables.

Both tables have larger photos on our website under the heading Restored Snooker Tables.

Both tables are in our showroom in fully assembled form. Please phone 01427 839271 to arrange a viewing.

Michaela Tabb - Snooker Ref

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

It is fair to say that Michaela Tabb is not your common or garden Snooker Referee. Michaela has caused quite a stir since her arrival in Sheffield to referee a match in the Embassy World Championships a number of years ago.

Michaela was previously a referee in Nine ball for a number of years before making the switch to Snooker. Do not think that she doesn’t know how to hold a cue either , because she has represented Scotland at the nine ball game.

However Michaela is about to top her previous refereeing achievements by being the first female referee to officiate in a major final. This weekend she will referee the Masters final at Wembley in front of 3000.

Regardless Michaela is no stranger to finals as she referee’d the 2007 Welsh final between Andrew Higginson and Neil Robertson. Do not be surprised if you hear a lot more of this lady in the near future , she is being strongly tipped as a future referee for the World Championship final.

Would you rather see some old bloke reffing - didnt think so !

K-Rest - Interesting product now available

It has to be said that the one thing our industry does not do a lot of is innovate. Therefore when something comes along that is a little different people can remain sceptical. We think this product deserves a special mention.

The K-Rest has been around for a period of time but has for a number of reasons been kept under wraps.

We love this product and think that you may well feel the same way. I have never ever been more than an adequate Snooker player. One of the areas of the game that I always struggle with is when faced with the need to use a rest.

I believe I have now found an answer to the inconsistency in my game. Let me tell you a little bit more about the K-Rest.

First of all this rest is now approved by the European Billiards and Snooker Association - so it can be used widely and within the Rules of the Game.

The K-Rest is used to play shots where the Cueball is too distant to play with a traditional Hand bridge. The interesting thing is that this rest is used as an extension to the hand bridge. This means that those players with Cue extensions can now have an extended bridge as well which (and this is the crux of the matter) allows the player to adopt a normal stance to cue the ball.

The other main difference is that it allows the bridge to be altered to differing heights dependent on the action you wish to attain on the cueball. Basically due to the three different heights a player can lower his bridge as he would with his hand for applying Screw or use the centrepoint for Stun or the high point for Top Spin.

The benefits are

  • Play Rest shots in a normal stance
  • Less overhang than with a bridge shot
  • Better Cueball control
  • Better Sighting
  • Accurate Cueing

Steve Davis utilised this Rest for a feature on BBC whilst televising the World Championship. He awarded it 8/10 and he knows a bit about Snooker.
